Walleye
Fort Peck walleye are present in both large numbers and size. Ten pound fish can be found in relative frequency, with an excellent average even outside of trophy range. Peak fishing is usually present in the middle of May through the middle of July, the best time being in the month of June. The season tends to be longer or shorter, depending of course on weather.

Northern Pike
Pike can be one of the most prevalent, fun fish to catch. They provide superb table fare for those wanting to enjoy a fresh fish meal any time of year. Pike are commonly caught throughout the year, though slow days may exist depending on the weather. If you are looking for that 20-pound wall hanger, your best bet is in late August all the way to ice up. September usually results in being the best month, because of stable weather and actively feeding fish.
Smallmouth Bass
Although rarely targeted, bass in Fort Peck have an impressive average size by any standard. The Montana state record has been caught out of the Fort Peck in repeatedly. They can be found most of the year with peak times being in early spring and later summer. Pound for pound, they may be the best fighting fish in the lake

LakeTrout
Trout tend to be the most selective species on Fort Peck. Lake trout are easiest to catch early after ice out and late in the year just before ice up, but may be caught throughout the year sporadically with downriggers.
